Radical orchidectomy through inguinal approach

Radical orchidectomy

For testicular tumour, the first therapeutic step is orchidectomy through inguinal approach. The testicle is exposed through the inguinal canal, then a high and rapid ligature of the spermatic vein is performed. Generally, the clinical macroscopic aspect of the testis does not require extemporaneous histological examination. Therefore the surgeon further performs a ligature of spermatic cord and artery. The whole specimen is then transmitted to the pathologist in order to study the tumour extent.
